Fishing: Spur of the moment decided to head up and either look for mushrooms or fish. Knew the Weber caddis were around since I had been a few days previous and caught a few in the eve. On the drive, debated going to Provo to just hunt morels but then bailed on that and went to Weber. Got to Wanship exit and looked at the bridge to see if bugs around since I had done that a few days previous with the girls and a few risers were in there. Sure enough a few in the spot above the diversion right below bridge. I grabbed my rod which was already rigged and figured I’d make a few casts in flip flops without even wadering up. Snuck down on the rocks and there were a few in the corner sipping. Missed a good one on the seam twice, then stuck one rising downstream on the inside eddy tough spot and landed it. Cool fish, good battle through the rocks about 15” or so. Was stoked to easily stick a fish 30 minutes from home. Was walking back to the truck and spotted a head to tail silhouette under the bridge so snuck in there. Realized there was another one on my side too, so snuck up and fished to that one. It was sporadic so made a cast toward the original one on the other side that was more regular. Made a few casts outside of that one to gauge distance and vis and one ate it in the middle of the river, it jumped several times and pulled good. Landed it and it was 16-17” good fish. Then worked on the one on the inside again and ended up sticking it and battling it and it was a solid 18” fish sweet male and was stoked! Made some casts to the original one and stuck it and broke it off. Great little session and some solid fish!
Headed downriver to check some other spots and see if bugs were all the way down. Checked Creamery, and dudes there and risers but went further down. Ended up on frontage where river is right by freeway. Found a good morel there, but it was dried out already. Cool to find though. Saw a couple sneaky risers on the inside of a long pool, couldn’t get the best drift so went back and wadered up to walk across and fish back at it. When I got there, I couldn’t see them anymore and thought I had put them down so started moving down. I could hear the fish rise though so stared hard and sure enough still there. Went back up into position and worked the fish and got a killer eat in the sun and stuck it, another good one around 17” or so, little skinny but cool fish. Stuck the other one and lost it. Worked down through several other spots and found a few more in each spot, missed one of them and didn’t get the others. Killer few hours of caddis fishing!
