Weber River Wanship May 5th, 2014

Date / Time: Monday, May 5th, 2014 7pm-9pm Location: Weber sheep farm downriver WIA access. The Characters: Kory & Brian Weather: Partly Cloudy 60s, slightly breezy Water Temp: High 40s guess Water Level: Low around 70 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Slightly off color Moon Phase: Two days before first quarter Best Flies: My triple wing caddis pattern #18 tied parachute style. BK got a few on Hemingway I think Fishing: Headed up with BK after Tammy got home to take care of Anna. Weather was going to go cold, so wanted to hit it before that happened. Got up there and the clouds were moving in, but it wasn’t full fledged weather switch yet but a bit cooler. Caddis were thick in bushes and eventually ended up on the water thick. Fished the big pool above the fence walkover that eddies and got a few in there, but the bigger fish were in the eddy on the other side and water wasn’t moving. Walked up around bends and tons of bugs, but no risers. Eventually when river curved back and below the big willow in the middle we found fish up. There was a nice one right behind the lower willow in a tough spot, I worked him and ultimately got him big fish but a little snakey about 19 or so. Got another nice one in front of the willows similar size. There were fish all over around the willows. There were also some nice ones along the grassy bank and BK managed one super tight that was quite nice. Worked up and they were going off in the top of the micro backeddy, ended up getting one smallish one and then a whitey. Those went down. Fished up into the next grassy edge and there were some big fish up along the far side. Got a few decent in tailout and BK got a couple above. Ended working a big fish that was in a micro eddy at the top, but missed him 3 times and never hooked him. We walked up and eventually into the big slow stretch below the sheep farm, but spooked everything as it was getting too dark anyway. Good evening.
